Saint Patrick’s Day Crocheted Shamrock

The shamrock is worn as a badge on the lapel. Three is Ireland’s  magic number and the three petals that make up the shamrock is supposed to bring good luck.

MATERIALS
  Medium (worsted) weight wool yarn 
      (Color green and    white)
  Size 5.0mm crochet hook

ABBREVIATIONS AND SYMBOLS
  SS = Slip Stitch (.)
  SC = Single Crochet (+)
  HDC = Half Double Crochet (Τ)
  DC = Double Crochet (DC)

INSTRUCTION
Rnd 1)
     Magic Loop + Chain 1 and into the loop.
     SS into the ring.
     Chain 5 and SS into the main ring.
     Chain 5 and SS into the main ring.
     Chain 5 and SS into the main ring for 3 leaves.
Stem:
  1)Chain 8
  2)Into the 3rd stitch 1 HDC + 1 HDC + 1 SC + 1 SC +
    + 1 SC + 1 SC (basically 2 HDC and 4 SC in the
    next 5 stitches)
  3)Slip stitch into the main ring    
  4)[Slip stitch into the loop and CH 1 + 1 SC + 2 HDC     
    + 3 DC + 2 HDC + 1 SC and slip stitch into the
    main ring]* Repeat 2 times
  5)Slip stitch into the main ring and finish off.
